2007器质音乐专辑《地上的种子》

    2003，在冷酷仙境第一次去北京演出之前，林笛创作了《地上的种子》一曲，该曲在北京当时由野孩子乐队开办的酒吧首演时，是为了表达冷酷仙境乐队对野孩子乐队的喜爱和敬意。没想到没过几年，当年一起喝酒聊天的野孩子主唱小索就因病去世了，这使得冷酷仙境乐队非常惋惜和心痛，为了纪念他，便将这首具有纪念意义的歌曲，题献给小索。

    在乐队引入琵琶和大提琴之后，以前的曲风便不太适宜这两种乐器。林笛第一次创作出《五人同游》这首纯器乐时，便决定要尝试一种新的五重奏风格，这是前所未有的使用大提琴与琵琶，民乐与古典，即兴与复调，错综复杂却又流畅动听的曲风，无法简单地定义为“新民乐”或者“新民谣”。

    该专辑的三首人声作品，跨越了4个年头，《地上的种子》写于2003，《荒城梦魇》是2005年冷酷仙境在上海开的第一个专场音乐的标题，当时的那首歌后来经过大改动，以至于不再适合现场演出，只能收录于专辑中。至于《关山月》，是2006年冬天，为该专辑创作的收尾之作，原意是要创作一首简单明朗的歌曲，最后选用了李白的唐诗作为歌词。

    事实上，在上张专辑《陌生仙子国》录制的同时，已经开始了《五人同游》的录制，但直到最后一首《冰封之国》混完，这张跨度为3年多的器乐专辑才终于完工。

    完成了这个专辑之后，也标志着乐队五人配制的成熟化，因为在上一张乐队专辑《陌生仙子国》中，大提琴只小小的露了一次脸，而这张新专辑，则完整地展示了大提琴手周圣安的风采，这也是林笛的用意所在。现在，排练的时候，大家都会明显的感觉到，缺了谁都不行，真正学习了如何在音乐中互相依靠。

    耗费了3年时间，终于诞生的这个孩子，也让林笛松了口气，接下来，冷酷仙境又将会探索另一种风格语言，这是多么美妙的事情，音乐世界里总是充满了无穷的想象和无数的可能性。

    而此时，请你在这片内心的原野，森林，河流，自然中游历吧，跟随冷酷仙境们四处周游的足迹，想想那片乌云外面的天空，有多么的蓝，多么的广。由衷感谢：口袋，莫家伟，张海生，杨涵，吴丹，craig，seppo以及所有关心冷酷仙境的过去，现在与未来的人们。

In 2003 Cold Fairyland performed in the River Bar, run by a band called Wild Child. To mark the occasion, Lindy wrote the song "Seeds on the Ground" to express Cold Fairyland’s affection and respect for Wild Child. The song was premiered at this performance.  A few years later Wild Child’s lead singer, Xiao Suo, unexpectedly died of cancer. This made the members of Cold Fairyland deeply sorry and upset. So, to commemorate him, the title track "Seeds on the Ground" is dedicated to Xiao Suo.

Lindy created "Five Travelers" as purely instrumental music, and the quintet forged a new style, prominently featuring the cello and pipa. Uncommon instruments in the band’s former style, their use is unprecedented here. Folk and Classical, improvisation and polyphony, the complex yet smooth sound can not simply be defined as “New Folk” or “New Age”.

The album’s three vocal works span four years. "Seeds on the Ground" was written in 2003, Cold Fairyland premiered "Ghost Town Nightmare" live in Shanghai  in 2005, after extensive refinement, the song proved to softly subtle for a tumultuous live environment. Though no longer performed live, it is included in the album. "The Moon at the Fortified Pass" was written in the winter of 2006. It features lyrics by Tang Dynasty poet, Li Bai.

In fact, Five Travelers" was recorded at same time as  the album “Kingdom of Benevolent Strangers”, But the cut was "frozen", unmixed.  A span of more than three years passed until the Instrumental was finally completed for the album.

On the album, "Kingdom of Benevolent Strangers", the cello played only a small role. With the completion of the new album and the maturation of the new style, all five players are fully involved. This was Lindy’s intention. In rehearsal now, we have really learned how to rely on each other.

After three years, the new album is like the birth of the child.  Lindy and Cold Fairyland  explore a different musical language, a wondrous thing, This musical world is full of boundless imagination and countless possibilities.

And now, we will follow Cold Fairyland on a journey through nature, rivers, forests, wilderness, and into your heart. Think - outside the sky, how blue, how wide.
